Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki called for the UN General Assembly to adopt later Thursday a draft resolution recognizing a State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, dpa reported.
Al-Maliki attended in New York the annual meeting of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, at which President Mahmoud Abbas attended but did not speak.
"We remained committed to the two-state solution despite the situation on the ground," al-Maliki. He said the recognition of the State of Palestine would help achieve the goal for peace in the Middle East.
