Moroccan source denies purchase of warships from Israel

Israel Materials 9 April 2008 19:45 (UTC +04:00)

(dpa) - A Moroccan government source Wednesday denied a report by the London-based daily al-Quds al-Arabi that Morocco had purchased warships from Israel.

"The Moroccan government has never bought anything from Israel, let alone military equipment," the source, who requested to remain anonymous, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

However, there was no official denial from the Moroccan government.

Al-Quds al-Arabi said Morocco had purchased from Israel three corvettes Deborah, which a Dutch company would equip with combat systems, surveillance radars, communication and navigation systems.

The corvettes were due to be delivered by 2012. The worth of the alleged deal was not given.
