Israeli fighter jets have launched two overnight attacks on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, an Israeli military spokeswoman says, Press TV reported.

The Israeli official claimed that the air strikes were carried out to destroy tunnels under border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip into Israel had prompted the Israeli air strikes, AFP quoted the Israeli military spokeswoman as saying on Sunday.

She added that the air strikes have caused no injuries or damages.

Israel accuses Hamas of running the tunnels between Gaza and Egypt to take in weapons, but the tunnel operators say that the tunnels are the only way to provide food, fuel and household appliances to the Palestinian people on the Gaza Strip, which has been totally sealed off by Israel.

Israel has imposed the siege on the impoverished territory of 1.5 million Palestinian people since June 2007 causing a humanitarian crisis.
