( Reuters ) - Thirty workers were injured, one severely, when chlorine gas escaped at a German industrial plant in Frankfurt on Friday, police said.

One man suffered serious chemical burns, while 10 more with slight injuries went to hospital for observation, a police spokesman said.

The cause of the accident, which occurred as the gas was being moved into a different container, was under investigation.

Authorities said they were able to halt the leak quickly, but still sealed off the area and advised local residents to stay inside with their doors and windows shut.
