( dpa ) - Sun Microsystems plans to hire 300 new employees over the next three months to beef up its operational strength in the Asia-Pacific region, an executive said in a published report on Monday.

"If we take a year, we will miss the growth," The Business Times quoted marketing director Chong Soon Cheong as saying of the urgent headcount hike.

The newly employed will help cope with an anticipated increase in business in South Asia, India and China.

The Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, contributes 17 per cent to the California-based company's global revenues.

Sun said the most importing opportunities this year include data centre solutions, operating system software and its services businesses.
