( dpa )- Police in Hong Kong were hunting Wednesday for the killer of a Bangladeshi asylum seeker found bludgeoned to death in an industrial area near Hong Kong's border with China.

The man in his 30s was found with heads injuries by a warehouse worker in Sheung Shui in Hong Kong's northern New Territories early Tuesday and was declared dead at the scene.

People living near the site, where there are a number of recycling factories, said they heard an argument between a group of men and saw two men leaving the area early Tuesday.

Papers were found on the victim indicating that he was an asylum seeker allowed to temporarily live in Hong Kong but not to take up a job, a police spokesman said.

Hong Kong used to be a popular haven for asylum seekers and was home to thousands of Vietnamese boat people in the 1980s and 1990s before the territory's massive refugee camps were shut down.
