(dpa) - Iraq's President Jalal Talabani began an official visit to Ankara a week after the end of a major Turkish offensive into northern Iraq, the Turkish government reported Friday.
Talabani is to meet his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul in the evening.
Turkey is aiming to rebuild relations between the two countries after the military offensive against the banned Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), the government said in a statement, adding that among issues to be discussed are trade, culture, defence and energy.
The Turkish offensive against PKK camps in mountainous north of Iraq ended a week ago Friday, after the United States called for a quick end to the incursion.
The PKK is considered by both the US and the European Union as a terrorist group.
