Nur Rizan Mohd Sazalli, her brother, mother and mother's friend were charged in a Singapore district court with hurting the 28-year-old maid Badingah and wrongfully restraining her between June 2 and July 26 last year.

The abuses also included hitting the maid with an iron rod and cane, and pouring hot water on her private parts, The Straits Times said.

The court was told on Monday the worst abuse was yanking out the teeth.

Elsa Elyana Said, the maid's employer, allegedly held the woman's head while Nur Rizan Mohd Sazali, the friend's daughter, pulled two teeth out. It was not disclosed how she did it.

Badingah had been working for Elsa Elyana since November 2006. She has been staying at the Indonesian Embassy since August.

Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan scheduled a pre-trial conference for March 27. The maximum punishment for the most serious offences is a seven-year jail term.
