Russia's Lavrov says any supplies of weaponry to Kosovo illegitimate

Itar Tass- Any supplies of weaponry to Kosovo are illegitimate if they stand outside the format of the UN Security Council's resolution 1244, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a news conference here Thursday.

That resolution sets up the only legitimate framework for settling the situation in Kosovo, he said.

"It doesn't allow creation of Kosovo's own Armed Forces or any supplies of weaponry there, except for the weaponry needed by the international contingent deployed there on the Security Council's mandate," Lavrov said.

"No doubt, we'll analyze what is happening in Kosovo now and I'd like to think these supplies don't pursue the goal of coercion of the Serbs or other ethnic minorities to remaining within the format of an illegally proclaimed state," he said.

"I don't think this will add more stability to the Balkans, as the contrary is more likely to happen then," Lavrov said.
