(dpa) - At least five people were killed when a four- storey building under construction collapsed in New Delhi on Saturday, police said.

More than 25 people were injured when the building located in the Usmanpur locality in north-eastern Delhi came down in the early morning hours.

"Five of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. We are yet to determine what caused the collapse," said Sushil Sharma, station house officer of the Usmanpur area.

Many others could be trapped under the debris of the building and rescue operations were underway, Sharma said.

"Most of the victims were workers engaged in the construction of the building," he said.

Police said 21 of the injured were admitted to a local government hospital for treatment.
