( dpa )- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in the Jordanian capital Amman Sunday from Israel and held a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas , who returned earlier in the day from the Arab summit in Damascus, Palestinian sources said.
Rice was scheduled to meet later Sunday night with Jordan's King Abdullah II.
She was expected to discuss with the two Arab leaders means of achieving a breakthrough in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians on core issues in the run-up to the creation of a Palestinian state before the end of 2008 as envisaged by US President George W Bush at the Annapolis conference, officials said.
