Ugandan military officials said Monday that
14 soldiers from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been arrested during the
past two weeks after illegally crossing the country's porous western
borderline.
"We apprehended them on three counts: suspected enemy intentions against a
good neighbour, illegal entry and suspected thuggish intentions against
Ugandans," western region army spokesman Captain Tabaro Kiconco told
Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
However, Kiconco said the soldiers would be handed back to the Kinshasa authorities.
The two countries have been feuding over disputed border regions, including one
where huge deposits of oil were discovered in recent years.
Diplomatic intervention has been previously necessary to stop a further flare
up between the two states, which were involved in a conflict from 1998-2003.
