Taiwan on Saturday issued a sea warning for Typhoon Fung-Wong ( Phoenix), which has formed over the Pacific Ocean in the past two days, the dpa reported.
By 11 am (0300 GMT) Saturday, the centre of Fung-Wong was 680 kilometres southeast of Taiwan's southern tip at Erlunpi, the Central Weather Bureau said.
Moving in a westerly direction at 16 kilometres per hour (kmph), Fung-Wong packs centre winds of 101 kmph and gusts of 126 kmph.
Fung-Wong comes on the heels of Typhoon Kalmaegi which hit Taiwan on July 18, leaving at least 18 dead and causing severe agricultural damages.
On Saturday, President Ma Ying-jeou inspected flood-control measures in the Nantou County in central Taiwan and urged all sectors to make preparations for Typhoon Fung-Wong to prevent casualties and economic losses.
