A car bomb on Sunday wounded a Sunni political leader and his son and killed two of his bodyguards, police said.

In a coordinated attack moments after the explosion, unknown gunmen opened fire on the house of Zaki Obaid Fayadh, head of the local branch of the Iraqi Islamic party in Fallujah, about 40 miles west of Baghdad, the AP reported.

The bomb went off as the driver started the engine and Fayadh and his son were approaching the car, police said. The bomb was apparently planted under the car, police said.

The Iraqi Islamic party is led by Sunni Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi.
