A destructive tsunami could be on the way, after a powerful earthquake rattled parts of Indonesia, The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Sunday, CNN reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 7.5-magnitude quake was centered 85 miles ( 135 kilometers) northwest of Gorontalo, Sulawesi, Indonesia and 190 miles west of Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was 1170 miles east-northeast of Jakarta.
"This earthquake has the potential to generate a destructive regional tsunami along coasts located within 1000 km of the earthquake epicenter," the warning center said. "Authorities in that region should be aware of this possibility and take immediate action to evacuate coastal areas."
