The European Union (EU) pledged to donate 4 million euros (5.16 million U.S. dollars) to help Lebanon hold the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2009, local Naharnet website reported Wednesday.
The donation would help the Lebanese interior ministry organize the upcoming parliamentary elections, the report said.
The grant would also help the independent authority supervise election campaigns with necessary facilities.
Lebanese parties are keen on getting financial support from every channels, and the Lebanese government is determined to show the maximum neutrality in the campaigns, Xinhua reported.
The upcoming parliamentary elections are essential for all Lebanese groups. The ruling majority is seeking to preserve its seats in the parliament, while the opposition is seeking to become the majority.
The winner of the elections will rule the country for the next four years.
