Visiting United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher has expressed the confidence that the US cooperation will be continued with the present government of Nepal, the National News Agency RSS reported on Friday.
Boucher, at the end of his two-day visit to Nepal Thursday, said the U.S. government will continue existing cooperation and join hands in new areas of cooperation with Nepal and the Nepalese people.
Boucher said, "I conveyed this to the PM and top leaders of other political parties. U.S. political and economic support is urgent for Nepal that was ravaged by the 10-year conflict".
He said U.S. cooperation will increase to present government and U.S. will also cooperate in the management and rehabilitation of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) fighters through United Nations.
According to the report, Prime Minister Prachanda had expected U.S. aid for the rehabilitation of 4,000 UCPN(M) fighters that were disqualified in the verification.
On UCPN(M) being in the U.S. terrorist list, he said both sides were heading towards normalization of relations through regular dialogue and discussion, Xinhua reported.
