UN to donate 5 million USD toward Colombia's anti-poverty efforts

A top U.N. humanitarian official will visit Colombia's Choco region, one of the poorest in this South American country, local media reported on Monday.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, John Holmes, will present a donation of 5 million U.S. dollars to implement anti-poverty projects in the region, UN officials in Colombia told a local radio station, Xinhua reported.
"We expect his visit to contribute to a bigger visibility of Choco," the officials were quoted as saying.
Holmes will visit vulnerable communities in the municipalities of Condoto, Istmina, Bebedo and Quibdo, capital of Choco, where most of its residents are of African origin.
During his three-day visit, Holmes he will also hold talks with Colombian Interior Minister Fabio Valencia and Director of Disasters Prevention and Attention Luz Amanda Pulido.
