The Macedonian government on Sunday announced it would invest 8 billion euros (10.3 billion US dollars) in the country's infrastructure over the next seven years.

Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said that investment would focus on strategic infrastructure projects in the sectors of energy, transport, ecology, education and culture, Xinhua reported.

"These projects would significantly improve people's living standards, stimulate long-term development, and raise the competitiveness of Macedonian economy," Gruevski said at a press conference.

He said that the money will be invested in 30 strategic projects, such as build-up of new mines, development of renewable energy, improvement of road infrastructure, environmental protection and construction of new schools.

Gruevski pointed out that the projects will be funded through budget, debt leveraging and concessions.
