Eight pupils at a private high school in New York have tested positive for the lethal swine flu virus, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday, dpa reported.

Unlike cases reported in Mexico, where a new strain of the virus has killed at least 80 people, their symptoms were mild, Bloomberg said.

More than 100 children at the St Francis Preparatory School have reported flu-like symptoms. The school was to remain closed Monday.
