Further examinations have confirmed that the 17-year-old Yokohama student was not infected with A/H1N1 influenza virus, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said Friday, Xinhua reported.

The patient, who had been on a school trip in Canada's British Columbia Province on April 10-25, suffered from a fever and cough and underwent a medical checkup Thursday at a Yokohama municipal hospital. And he was therefore identified as the first suspected case of A/H1N1 influenza virus in Japan.

Tests showed that the student has been infected only with a seasonal strain of the influenza virus, said the ministry.

On Thursday, it was also confirmed that the female Japanese passenger, who tested positive for influenza in a preliminary examination after arriving at Japan's Narita international airport, was not infected with the A/H1N1 influenza virus.
