12 drug gang members die in clashes with police in Mexico

At least 12 drug gang members were killed Friday by the government forces and police officers in central Mexico, officials said, Xinhua reported.

At least three policemen were injured during the clashes in the state of Guanajuato, governor Juan Manuel Oliva said at a press conference.

The gangsters, armed with high caliber weapons and grenades, opened fire on the soldiers and federal policemen, the State General Prosecutor's Office (PGJE) said in a statement.

The clash lasted for more than two hours, it said.
