The EU and India agreed here Monday that a joint summit will be held in India this November, Indian Foreign Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna said after meeting with his Czech counterpart Jan Kohout and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU commissioner for external relations, Xinhua reported.
The two sides expressed hope that they will sign a bilateral free trade agreement by the end of 2009, which will redress the imbalance of bilateral trade. EU is the largest trade partner of India, while India occupies only the ninth position among the EU's partners. They also talked about world security, fight against terrorism and climate change.
Earlier Monday Kohout discussed Czech-India relations with Krishna.
Monday's meeting was the last Troika meeting at the ministerial level, involving the EU and a non-EU state, held under the Czech EU presidency before it ends on Tuesday.
The previous EU-India summit took place in the then EU presidency France last September.
