Algerian security sources said some eight terrorists have been killed by the end of last week in the eastern Algerian provinces of Batna and Tizi Ouzou , Algerian daily El Khabar reported on Sunday, Xinhua reported.
The security source told El Khabar on condition of anonymity that five terrorists have been killed by police in Batna Province. The five terrorists were among a group comprising 15 elements chased by the Algerian police. The group was active in mountainous areas of Batna.
The source said that the Algerian police could finish the five personnel through bombing a food shipment sent to the group by security bodies after it received information on the group's need for food supplies due to acute shortage in stocks.
Security bodies tricked the elements by sending them a booby- trapped shipment which was detonated later with a mobile phone, leading to the death of the five men.
According to the report coming from the local paper, combing operations in the area are going on in search for the rest of the fugitive elements, especially after the security bodies received reports stating that the elements are roaming the area may be in a bid to find a way out of the whole area.
Meanwhile, the Algerian army killed three other terrorists in the province of Tizi Ouzou. The troops started on Thursday a combing operation in the area dominated with woods and forests searching for the three elements who tried to flee the area, but the forces succeeded to get them beleaguered and killed them at last.
Terrorism in Algeria is conducted by Islamic militant groups that seek to overthrow the secular regime which came into power in 1992. A division of these militant groups is the pro-Qaida group al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.
