A US pilotless aircraft fired a missile into Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal district Wednesday, killing three people, an intelligence official said, DPA reported.

Five more people were injured in the strike that targeted a mud compound in Datta Khel area, near the Afghan border.

"We have received reports that two missiles struck a house and three people were killed while five injured," said a local intelligence official on condition of anonymity.

The official said the identity of those killed was not known at the moment.

Wednesday's attack was the second drone attack in North Waziristan this year. Three people died in the similar airstrike on Friday.

North Waziristan is one of seven districts in Pakistan's tribal region, a known sanctuary of Taliban militants and al-Qaeda operatives launching deadly assaults on Western troops operating in Afghanistan.
