New York's Times Square was shut down Saturday night after police found a suspicious package in the back seat of a car that was on fire, according to U.S. TV station CBS.
Officials are cited as saying that there were no injuries in the car fire, but that there was a "suspicious package" in the vehicle's back seat, Xinhua reported.
As a precaution, a bomb squad has been brought to the scene and is using a robot to inspect the package, says CBS.
Times Square has been reportedly shut down during the investigation. Traffic is being diverted from the area and pedestrians have been pushed back from the scene.
