German striker Thomas Mueller celebrated Frank Lampard's disallowed goal as revenge for the injustice suffered by Germany in the 1966 World Cup finals, DPA reported.
"Now we are even for what happened at Wembley" said the Bayern Munich striker after Lampard's goal brought back memories of Geoff Hurst's extra time strike 44 years ago.
Hurst scored for England with the ball bouncing down on the line having come down on the goal line but Azerbaijani linesman Tofik Bakhramov said the ball crossed the line and awarded the goal.
Fortune favoured England in 1966 but this time the luck was against them. German website Der Spiegel celebrated: "Wembley is back, only the reverse of 1966. Lampard smashed the ball under the bar and it landed clearly behind the goalline. The referee didn't see it."
