Swedish police said Monday they were assisting a Canadian man of Pakistani descent in continuing his trip to Pakistan after he was held for questioning over a bomb scare on Saturday , DPA reported
The man was completely cleared of any wrongdoing. He was on a Pakistan Airlines Boeing 777 with 273 people onboard that was diverted to Stockholm's Arlanda International Airport after Canadian police received an anonymous tip-off that there may be a bomb onboard.
The plane left Sweden later Saturday after a search failed to reveal any suspicious items. The man was the only passenger who stayed on in Sweden.
Stockholm daily Aftonbladet on Monday reported that the false tip- off may have been given by a slighted ex-girlfriend but Swedish police declined to comment on the report.
"The investigation is being handled by Canadian police," superintendent Per-Uno Johansson of the Swedish border police told the German Press Agency dpa.
Police said the man had asked to be shielded from the media
