Afghan soldiers backed by the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) detained a Taliban commander during overnight operations in the country's southern Kandahar province, ISAF said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Afghan soldiers backed by the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) detained a Taliban commander during overnight operations in the country's southern Kandahar province, ISAF said in a statement released on Tuesday.
  
"Afghan and coalition forces captured a Taliban attack cell commander whose group was responsible for several assassinations of Afghan government officials during an overnight operation in Kandahar province," the statement released here added, Xinhua reported.
  
However, it did not reveal the name of the captured commander, adding that he was captured in a compound west of Kandahar city the capital of same name Kandahar province.
  
In a similar operation, the troops targeted a Taliban district leader for Musa Qala district in the neighboring Helmand province during an overnight operation killed an insurgent and detained two other suspects, the military alliance confirmed in a separate statement.
  
Taliban militants, fighting Afghan and NATO-led forces, have yet to make comments.
