Germany "explicitly regrets" the absence of Liu Xiaobo, the jailed Chinese dissident awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize, from the award ceremony in Oslo, a government spokesman said on Friday, DPA reported.
Liu was a man who "bravely campaigns for political freedom and human rights, in particular insisting time and again that this goal must be pursued by peaceful means," said government spokesman Christoph Steegmans.
He said Germany would continue to appeal for Liu's release from prison.
Germany's ambassador to Norway was attending the ceremony, Steegmans added.
