A soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed Friday bringing to two the number of military alliance casualties over the past two days, Xinhua reported.

"An International Security Assistance Force service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today," ISAF said in a press release issued here.

The nationality and position of the victim had not been revealed in the press release, adding, "It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Troops, mainly from U.S., Britain, Canada and Australia, have been stationed in the southern region within the framework of ISAF to fight Taliban militants.

Another ISAF soldier was killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan's restive eastern region on Thursday. A total of 47 NATO soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since beginning this year.
