Singapore will hold a general election on May 7, a government statement said Tuesday after President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament earlier in the day.

Singapore will hold a general election on May 7, a government statement said Tuesday after President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament earlier in the day, Xinhua reported.

"The returning officer has declared that Saturday, 7 May 2011 is polling day," the statement said.

The Nomination Day is on April 27, according to local media the Channel NewsAsia.

Some 2.35 million voters are eligible to vote in the coming polls.
