Spain is expelling the Libyan ambassador to Madrid due to Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi's continued repression, the country's foreign ministry said Thursday, dpa reported.

Ajeli Abdussalam Ali Breni who has been given ten days to leave Spain.

A statement said the regime in Tripoli had "lost all legitimacy due to the constant repression that it exercises on the Libyan people."

Spain also expelled three other officials of the Libyan embassy who "exercised activities incompatible with their diplomatic status."

Last week, Spain informed Libya that it was withdrawing its ambassador from Tripoli. Spain's only diplomatic representative in Libya is now a special representative based in the rebel capital Benghazi.

Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez visited Benghazi on June 8 to express Spain's support for the Interim Transitional National Council (ITNC).
