Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou vowed to press ahead with a referendum on a new EU debt deal following an emergency cabinet meeting on Wednesday, saying it will provide a clear message that the country belongs in the euro, DPA reported.
"The referendum will be a clear mandate and a clear message in and outside Greece of our European course and participation in the euro," Papandreou said, according to a statement released by his office.
"No one will be able to doubt Greece's course within the euro."
