The lawyer of Russian pilots convicted in Tajikistan hopes for the help of the country's president, believing that the latter received "the distorted information" on this criminal case, a lawyer Gulyam Babayev said by phone from the Tajik city of Kurgan-Tyube, where the trial took place and where the convicted pilots are put in custody, Itar-Tass reported.

"I am absolutely confident that our president will take a correct decision after he gets the full and reliable information about the trial over Russian pilots," the lawyer said, noting that, "in his view, the president did not receive the fair information from his close associates or received the distorted information."

Babayev noted that he just returned from the meeting with Russian pilots - Russian citizen Vladimir Sadovnichy and Estonian citizen Alexei Rudenko, who are being kept at the detention center in Kurgan-Tyube after the verdict. "I was speaking with my clients before filing an appeal in a higher instance," the lawyer said, noting that the health of the convicts
is normal.
