America's music stars paid tribute to Whitney Houston Sunday as the Grammy Awards opened with a tribute to the celebrated singer a day after her surprising death, dpa reported.
"It only feels right to begin with a prayer for a woman who we loved, for our fallen sister Whitney Houston," said the host of the biggest night in the US music industry. "Heavenly Father, thank you for sharing our sister Whitney with us."
Houston's death at the age of 48 on Saturday dominated talk on the red carpet at the Staples Centre, where stars such as Rihanna, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift arrived for the annual awards show, at which British singer Adele is expected to stand out.
