Disco queen Donna Summer, who pioneered the use of electronic sounds in pop music, has died at 63, her family said Thursday, dpa reported.
The five-time Grammy winner passed away Thursday in Florida following a long bout with cancer.
She had major hits in the 1970s with songs like I Feel Love, Love to Love You Baby, Hot Stuff and She Works Hard for the Money.
Summer was married to singer Bruce Sudano for over 30 years. She is survived by her husband, three daughters and four grandchildren.
News of her death sparked a stream of condolences on Twitter.
"She will be terribly missed. She was truly the Disco Queen," La Toya Jackson tweeted.
"Donna pioneered the use of electronic sequencers in dance music," said Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. "Today that sound that seems so familiar - but in 1977, it was a brave new frontier."
