Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney said Friday it was a time for America to grieve after a shooting at a Colorado cinema left at least 12 people dead, dpa reported.
Romney said he joined President Barack Obama in mourning the lives lost in a "few moments of evil," as both candidates suspended campaigning as news of the incident broke.
"What we do know is how evil is overcome, and we're seeing that greater power today in the goodness and compassion of a wounded community," Romney said.
He noted that there would be a time for justice: "Today is a moment to grieve and to remember, to reach out and to help, to appreciate our blessings in life."
