Brazil's Interim President Michel Temer has declared the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro officially open, TASS reported.
Brazilian marathoner Vanderlei De Lima has lit the cauldron at the Rio Games.
De Lima was one of the suspected candidates after Pele revealed earlier Friday that health problems would keep him from attending the opening ceremony at Maracana Stadium.
Athletes from 206 nations and members of the refugee team performing under the Olympic flag will compete for 306 sets of medals in 28 sports at the first-ever Olympics to be held in South America.
More than 11,000 athletes will take part in the Games.
The Summer Olympic Games will run until August 21.
