Russia plans launching test mission to Mars

(Kazakhstan today) - Russian scientists are going to carry out an experiment to test a manned flight to Mars, Kazakhstan Today reports citing the Federal Space Agency "Roskosmos."

"It is planned to being a 520-day experiment (with a possibility of prolongation to 700 days), modeling a manned flight to Mars in the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the fourth quarter of 2007," - "Roskosmos" said, reports Trend.

During the experiment the scientists are going to receive information on health and working capacities of a man locked up for such a long time. "A manned flight to Mars requires solution of multiple problems, including medical and biological provision of the crew," - "Roskosmos" explained.

It is planned to carry out the experiment in three phases. The first phase would be a 250-day "flight" Earth to Mars, the second phase is a stay on the "surface of Mars" of the three crew members - up to 30 days. The third phase is a 240-day "flight Mars to Earth".

Six volunteers in the age from 25 to 50 will be selected. Doctors, engineers, biologists, IT specialists will be taken into the crew.
