Abkhaz prime minister wounded in attack

( RIA Novosti ) - Abkhaz Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab was hospitalized with minor wounds Monday after his car came under fire, the republic's interior minister said.

"On his way to Sukhumi, the prime minister came under automatic gunfire in his jeep in Gudaut half an hour ago [around 9:00 a.m.]," Otar Khetsiya said.

An investigation is underway.

It is the fourth attack against Ankvab, who was appointed premier of the breakaway republic in February 2005. Ankvab was first attacked two weeks after his appointment.

Another attack on the Abkhaz prime minister took place April 1, 2005, when his car came under fire at the village of Achadar in the Sukhumi District.
