Three Kurdish separatists were killed in fighting with Turkish soldiers Tuesday night in the central Anatolian province of Tunceli, the Anadolu news agency reported on Wednesday.

Turkish soldiers and militants from the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) fought throughout the night near the village of Kizilmescit, reported dpa.

Anadolu reported that the PKK rebels were preparing operations and had from time-to-time erected roadblocks in the region in order to "spread separatist propaganda".

Operations were continuing on Wednesday.

Turkey blames the separatist group for the deaths of more than 32,000 people since the early 1980s when the PKK began its fight for independence or autonomy for the mainly Kurdish-populated south-east of Turkey.

The PKK is listed by the United States and the European Union as a terrorist group.
