Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan said Monday that some 1,500 Turkish citizens were waiting for planes at the airport in Libyan city of Benghazi to return to Turkey, Anadolu News Agency reported.

Caglayan said at the closing of "Libya Assessment Meeting" in Ankara that Turkish people's safety was the most important issue, adding that there were no reports of casualties among Turkish citizens in Libya.

"Our government has taken all kinds of measures. There are some 1,500 Turkish citizens waiting for planes at the Benghazi Airport to return to Turkey," he said.

Caglayan added that 14 construction areas belonged to Turkish companies were looted.

High-level officials from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) as well as representatives of Turkish companies operating in Libya were in attendance at the meeting.

Week-long unrest left hundreds of people dead in Libya as people took to the streets to demonstrate against Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year reign.
