Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 7
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
Military operations by the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Syria are for the benefit of Syria itself, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Trend reports referring to Turkish media Oct. 7.
Cavusoglu noted that the new anti-terrorist operations in northern Syria are aimed at bringing peace and stability to this country.
“Turkey, as before, supports the territorial integrity of Syria,” Cavusoglu said.
Cavusoglu added that Turkey will clean the region from terrorists.
On Oct. 4, Cavusoglu said that the safety zone in Syria is a matter of life and death for Turkey.
Cavusoglu noted that if Ankara doesn’t take steps in the near future to create a safety zone in northern Syria, it will face more serious problems in the neighboring country in the future.
Washington promised that it would withdraw troops from the northern regions of Syria, but the US didn’t keep its word, Cavusoglu added.
On Oct. 1, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey will have to create the safety zone in northern Syria alone.
Erdogan noted that the Syrian refugees who live in Turkey will be moved to the safety zone.
“Turkey can no longer wait for someone to create the safety zone in northern Syria,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan noted that creating the safety zone won’t be easy, but the country’s armed forces will cope with this difficult task.
