New cruise port to be built in Istanbul

A tender for the construction of a cruise port in Istanbul will be announced in 2020, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

According to the ministry, the construction of the Istanbul cruise port will increase the number of tourists.

The Istanbul cruise port will have the capacity to simultaneously accept at least eight cruise ships, the ministry notes.

However, the ministry has not specified the date of construction and the project cost.

In 2018, Turkish ports received 8,386 cruise ships, and 3,891 of them arrived from other countries. Private cruise ships arrived most of all in Turkish ports, according to the report.

“In 2018, 5,998 private cruise ships arrived in Turkish ports, and 3,333 of them arrived from other countries,” the report said.

During the reporting period, 2,388 commercial cruise ships arrived in Turkish ports.

“In 2018, most private cruise ships arrived in Turkish ports from the US (1,138) and from the UK (689),” the ministry said.

During this period, 170 private cruise ships arrived from Germany, 100 from the Netherlands, 69 from Italy, 47 from Greece, 22 from Canada, 123 from Malta and 18 from Israel.
