Turkey to co-op with Azerbaijan in hazelnut export

Turkey is planning to cooperate in area of exporting hazelnuts to global markets, Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry told Trend.

The ministry said that Turkey and Azerbaijan are among most important participants of the hazelnuts production market.

"Turkey has great experience in production and export of hazelnut to the global markets and is ready to support Azerbaijan in this area," the ministry said.

Azerbaijan has exported hazelnut worth $125 million in 2019. The majority of the walnut orchards are in Hakh, Zakatala, Balaken regions of the country.

Azerbaijan Hazelnut Producers and Exporters Association (AHPEA) was registered in Azerbaijan’s Justice Ministry on Oct. 31, 2016 and includes 60 organizations for hazelnut production. The first meeting of the association was held on Feb. 4, 2017.

World's largest hazelnut producer is currently Turkey, as 75 percent of the global hazelnut production account for this country. Azerbaijan's share on the global hazelnut market is 4 percent as of now, however according to some estimates, the country has great potential for further increase of hazelnut production.
