Turkish ministry updates on construction of Ankara-Izmir railway

The construction of 508-kilometers long Ankara-Izmir railway will be completed in 2023, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

The ministry said that the railway will run through six provinces, namely, Ankara, Eskisehir, Afyon-Karahisar, Usak, Manisa and Izmir.

“The project’s cost is estimated at 7.125 billion Turkish liras (6,5271 TL/USD),” said the ministry.

The volume of expenditures on the construction of this railway stood at 3.432 billion liras in 2019, according to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

“About 456.056 million liras was allocated in 2020 to continue the construction, which is carried out by state funds only,” said the ministry.

Earlier, the ministry said that a total of 25.2 billion liras will be allocated in 2020 in Turkey for transport and infrastructure projects.

Turkey will implement 2,994 project in 2020, of which 455 are related to the transport and infrastructure sphere. A total of 77.134 billion liras have been allocated for all projects.

Implementation of projects for creating 12 logistical centers continues in Turkey.

Eight of such projects are at the stage of development and centers, while the construction of four logistical centers continues. Foreign contractors may take part in the construction.
