Freight traffic at Turkey's Adnan Menderes Airport rises, passenger traffic drops

The volume of cargo transported through the Turkish Izmir Adnan Menderes International Airport amounted to 29,000 tons from January through May 2021, which is 33 percent more compared to the same period of 2020, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.

During the mentioned period, the volume of cargo transportation on domestic flights amounted to 24,063 tons (increase of 70 percent on annual basis), on international - 4,937 tons (decrease of 35 percent), the ministry said.

“The passenger traffic at the mentioned airport amounted to 1.81 million people, which is a decrease of 18 percent year on year. At the same time, the passenger traffic on domestic flights amounted to 1.63 million people (decrease by 12 percent), on international - 176,299 people (decrease by 49 percent),” said the ministry.

According to the ministry, the number of flights performed from the airport was 15,623, decrease of 6 percent. At the same time, the number of flights performed on domestic lines was 13,589 (equal to the same period last year), on international - 2,034 (decrease of 33 percent).

In the first 4 months of 2021, the passenger traffic at all airports in Turkey amounted to 29.4 million people, and the volume of cargo transportation – 1.05 million tons.
