Azerbaijani economy grows nominally almost 4%

Total volume of Azerbaijan's GDP amounted to 39.2 billion AZN in January-August 2014, which exceeds the figure for the same period of last year by 2.4 percent, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee reported Sept. 15.

Nominal GDP growth made up 3.7 percent.

GDP per capita increased by 1.1 percent and made up 4170.3 AZN ($5317.3) in January-August, the report said.

Some 61.9 percent of GDP in Azerbaijan was formed in the field of production during this period. The volumes remained unchanged there.

The value added share generated in industry makes up 45 percent, construction - 11.8 percent, agriculture, forestry and fishery - 5.1 percent. Some 31 percent of gross output was generated in the service sector.

Around 7.8 percent of GDP in the sector of services accounted for trade and repair of vehicles, 4.9 percent - transport and warehousing, 2.1 percent - tourist accommodation and catering sphere, 1.7 percent - the information and communication services, 14.5 percent - social and other services.

The non-oil sector of the economy increased by 6.3 percent compared to the same period of last year, its share in GDP was 57.3 percent. The volume of value added production in the extraction and processing of oil and gas decreased by 2.6 percent.

Gross production in agriculture, forestry and fishery decreased by 3.7 percent, but by 1.6 percent in the industry.

The volume of value added production in Azerbaijan`s construction sector increased by 8.6 percent, tourist accommodation and catering - 15.7 percent, information and communication services - 10.5 percent, trade and repair of vehicles - 9.3 percent, transport and warehousing - 5.5 percent, social and other services - 4.8 percent in January-August 2014.

Net taxes on products and imports amounted to 2.789 billion manat or 7.1 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD on Sept. 15.
