Turkmenistan expects German investments and expansion of trade

Turkmenistan plans to host Day of German Economy on Dec. 5, Turkmenistan TV channel said on Monday.

This event aims at expanding partnership with German goods producers and attracting investment to the local economy.

The forum will discuss the prospects of cooperation in investment, development of logistics, construction, medical industry, science and tourism.

The forum will be attended by a delegation from Germany, which will consist of the heads of 70 companies and government organizations, specializing in areas such as trade, fuel and energy complex, chemical industry, transport and communications, construction, food and agriculture, finance and new technologies.

At the meeting held at the Cabinet of Ministers, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that, given the economic potential of the two countries, great prospects are being created for further increase in trade turnover, extension of German companies' activities in the Turkmen market and implementation of joint projects, including through entrepreneurship.

Ashgabat is being regularly visited by top managers of leading German companies engaged in the oil and gas industry, areas of energy, transport and communications, trade and financial sector, and agro-industry. These companies include Bauer Comp Holding AG, Lemken GmbH, John Deer International GmbH, ThyssenKrup AG and others.

German companies are quite well represented in Turkmenistan's fuel and energy complex. They previously implemented projects such as the construction of lubricating oils and paraffin production facilities, construction of installations at the Turkmenbashi oil refinery for cleaning of diesel fuel from the water, as well as the building of a gas compressor station in Korpeje.

Cooperation was established with one of the leading natural gas traders in the European Union's market - RWE, which signed a production sharing agreement (PSA) in 2009 for the development of offshore fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.
